No Audio/Sound in the eBook Videos Apple Devices

Last Updated: Mar 22, 2016 02:31PM MDT
Your Apple or Android device or computer must have and be connected to a consistent, high speed wifi/internet connection for the in-page/embedded video clips in your eBooks to work.

For Apple Devices

If the in-page/embedded video clips do not have audio/sound set your “Use Side Switch To:” setting in your iPad/iPhone Settings to “Lock Rotation”: Press the home button on your iPad/iPhone to go to your home screen with all the app icons. Tap the “Settings” app icon, then “General” on the left, then under the gray lettering that says “USE SIDE SWITCH TO:” on the right tap “Lock Rotation” so it has a check mark and “Mute” does not have a check mark

Settings > General  > Use Side Switch To: Lock Rotation

For some iPads/iPhones the audio plays only when mute is off (on the iPad mute is different from volume on the side button). When you change the “Use Side Switch To:” to the “Lock Rotation” setting on your ipad it makes it so that the hardware switch on the side of your iPad controls the screen lock rather than mute and your audio in the videos comes through. A weird, complicated and irritating Apple feature! The YouTube app plays audio in both settings as long as your volume is up.

You can also read your eBooks and hear the audio to these videos on your computer by going to and logging in with your email login and your Deseret Book password. Click one of the eBooks with the videos, go to the Table of Contents page, click the “Video Segments” chapter and any of the video links go to on your computer and should have the audio working.
